½ cup brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt (Marian note: I use ½ tsp salt)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
¼ tsp almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients together. Cream sugar and margarine very well. Add egg, vanilla, almond extract, cream of tartar. Add the dry ingredients little by little. Let dough cool for about 2 hours in refrigerator or overnight. Shape into little balls about size of a walnut. (Larger if you want large cookies). Dip each ½ ball in water, then sugar. Place sugar-side up- on oiled cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake at 350º until golden.
