2 c. - shortening
2 c. - white sugar
1/2 tsp - salt
2 - eggs
5 c. - flour
1 1/2 tsp. - baking soda
2 tsp. - almond flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 - egg yolk
1/2 c. - blanched sliced almonds



Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º F.

Beat shortening and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time, and mix well. Sift flour, soda, and salt. Mix to the shortening/egg mixture. Add flavorings, Shape dough into 1 inch balls, flatten them on a cookie sheet. Beat egg yolk with 12 tsp water. Brush cookies with egg mixture. Press almonds on cookies.

Bake in a 375° F oven until golden brown. About 8 -10 minutes.
