2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c. peanut butter
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. Robin Hood flour
1 tsp. baking powder *
1 tsp.. soda*
1 tsp. salt*

If using self rising flour, omit the last 3 ingredients.

Cream sugar, peanut butter and shortening thoroughly. Add eggs and mix well. Spoon flour into dry measuring cup. Level off and pour measured flour onto wax paper. Add baking powder, soda and salt to flour. Stir to blend. Add blended dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Mix well. Shape dough into 1" balls. Place on baking sheet; flatten with tines of fork. Bake at 375º for 8 - 10 minutes.
