1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 tbsp. vinegar
5 c. sifted flour
1 ½ tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar, and salt. Stir in egg, molasses, and vinegar, beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and then stir into molasses mixture. Chill. On lightly floured surface roll into ⅛ inch thickness. Cut with gingerbread boy/girl cutters. Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Use red hots for eyes, nose, and buttons. Bake about 6 minutes. Cool. Frost with white frosting made of cream, powdered sugar, and a little vanilla. Use cake decorator to make sleeves, belt, pants, and curly que on top of head.
