"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup milk. Add salt, sugar, and shortening; mix well.

Add the flour (enough to make stiff) and remaining cup of milk and combine. Grease the top and place in a warm place to rise until about double in bulk; approximately 1 hour.

Turn out on to a lightly floured board and knead slowly. Make into rolls, place on cookie sheet and grease tops again and let rise until double again; approximately 1 hour.

Bake in oven at 350º for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Makes about 12-14 rolls.
