1-1/2 c. water
1-1/2 c. raisins

1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. nuts
1 tbsp. shortening
2-3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda

Directions:

Boil the water and raisins for 5 minutes and cool.

Stir all ingredients together.

Fill 3 - #2 cans. Grease cans very well.

Bake 1 hour at 350º oven.

My grandma Sanborn made this bread often. I remember loving it! I remember that she baked it in empty cans, instead of pans. Therefore it was round.I remember we always buttered the bread.

I'm sorry to say that I have never tried this recipe. I think I'm afraid I would mess it up. I don't want to be the one to destroy the memory. I'm going to wait for my sister Shari to try it, and tell me it works.
