4 C flour
2 C sugar
4 tbsp shortening
2 tsp baking powder
4 eggs
3/4 C milk
1 tsp anise extract
1 C maraschino cherries (cut in half)
1 C almonds

Directions:
Directions:
preheat oven to 350º
combine all ingredients until dough forms. Wrap in wax paper and chill in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Sprinkle flour on surface and turn dough onto surface. Shape or roll into loaves.
Bake at 350º for 25-30 minutes or until slightly golden. If desired, slice into biscotti, place back onto baking sheet (cut side up) and bake an additional 5-10 minutes for extra crisp biscotti.
