3/4 C shortening
1 C brown sugar
1/2 C white sugar
1 egg
1/4 C water
1 t vanilla
2 C oats, uncooked
1 C flour
1 t salt
1/2 t soda
Directions:
Directions:
Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Add combines remaining ingredients, mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated moderate oven. 350º 12-15 minutes.

For variety, add chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate or butterscotch chips or coconut.
