1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
7 tablespoons of sweet milk
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cups raisins
3 cups flour
2 cups oatmeal

cream sugar and shortening together
beat in 2 eggs, one at a time
mix in milk
add remaining ingredients and mix well
You should have a stiff batter

Drop by teaspoonful on greased or parchment covered cookie sheet
Bake at 325º for 15 minutes

The original recipe, that came from Grandma Swetland, called for bacon grease instead of shortening. I've made them with bacon grease and they do not taste like bacon, but are very rich.
I've started boiling my raisins till soft before adding them. It makes a softer cookie . Be sure to squeeze out excess water though, if you boil them
If using dry raisins, mix them with a little flour before adding to prevent them from sticking together.
