1 c. butter, softened (two sticks)
1 1/2 c. sifted powder sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter. Add sugar, gradually. Cream until fluffy. Add unbeaten egg and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together dry ingredients. Blend into creamed mixture. Chill dough. Roll on a floured pastry sheet to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with floured cookie cutters. Bake about six minutes at 400º. Cool, frost, and decorate.
