3/4 cup real butter
1 cup light brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Cream butter and sugars with mixer (or hands), then mix in eggs and vanilla. Add sour cream all at once and mix. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt then stir in to the mixture. Mix well. Bake in preheated 375º oven for 10 minutes. You can spoon these out or roll and use cookie cutters. Sprinkle with sugar or use icing and coconut or nuts after they cool.

Grandma Phillips used to put Hershey Kisses on these too. Use your imagination.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Grandma used to quadruple this recipe and have someone mix it up by hand in a big pan. She always preferred having someone mix it by hand. She said the warmth of one's hands help to melt the sugars and the ingredients together. As a child I remember Grandma Bomberger making smoke pipes for us and we loved them; pretending to smoke a pipe. It was all in fun.
