3 sticks butter, softened
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 cup milk
3 cups Swans Down cake flour
1/2 heaping tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbs. vanilla
May add 1/2 cup of cocoa for chocolate pound cake

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time beating well after each.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt. Add to above mixture, a little at a time, alternating with milk. Start with flour mixture and end with flour mixture. Add vanilla. Beat 5 minutes after flour and vanilla added.

Grease and flour tube pan well with shortening and flour. (Do not use Pam)
Bake at 325º for 1 hour & 20-30 minutes.

May use half the ingredients and bake in a loaf pan. Reduce cooking time to 50-55 minutes at 325 degrees.
