1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
12 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg, separated
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1/3 cup jelly of your choice

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Into small bowl measure flour, brown sugar butter or margarine, vanilla, salt and egg yolk.
With mixer at low speed beat ingredients until blended, constantly scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Increase speed to medium; beat 1 minute.
With hands shape dough into 3/4 inch balls.
In a cup with fork, beat egg white until foamy. Place chopped walnuts onto sheet of waxed paper.
Dip balls into egg while, then into nuts.
Place balls 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Press thumb into center of each ball to make a 1/2 in indentation.
Spoon jelly into indentation. Store cookies in tightly covered container.º
