1/2 C butter or margarine softened
1/2 C shortening
1 C confectioners sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 t almond extract
1 t vanilla
1 t salt
1/2 t red food coloring
2 1/2 C flour

Directions:
Directions:
preheat oven to 375º. Mix butter, shortening, confectioners sugar, egg, flavorings. Blend in flour, salt. Divide dough in half, add color to 1/2. Shape 1 t dough from each half in 4" rope. Press together slightly and twist. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and shape into candy cane. Bake 9 minutes or till lightly brown. If you want to mix a cup of crushed peppermint candy and 1/2 C sugar and sprinkle cookie immediately out of the oven.

I loved making these with you at Christmas time. You got to be better at forming the canes than I was. Besides being so Good, they really make a tray of cookies look beautiful.
