1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp butter
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tbsp soft butter
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 cup sifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Caramelize 1/2 cup sugar by melting slowly in heavy pan over low heat, stirring until it becomes brown in color. Add boiling water, 1 cup sugar and 2 Tbsp butter, boil 10 minutes. Add vanilla and salt. Cream 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 Tbsp soft butter, add milk, baking powder, and flour mixing into stiff batter. Pour caramel mixture into 8x8 baking pan. Drop batter by large spoonfuls into caramel mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve warm with cream if desired.
