Grandma's Gumbo Recipe

1 c flour
1 c cooking oil
1/2 bunch green onions - chopped
1 tsp garlic salt
1 qt water
1 lb shrimp - shelled and deveined
cooked rice

Directions:
Directions:
Add oil to stock pot, let it get hot.. add flour, brown until dark brown, but not burned. should almost be the color of chocolate
Add green onions, garlic salt, stir to wilt onions. add water, bring to boil then reduce to simmering until thickened.
Add shrimp and cook for 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper
Serve over cooked rice.

I LOVED Grandma's Gumbo… She never had recipes for anything so I wrote it down while she was making it.. I have not been able to replicate the flavor.. the secret is in the roux..
