2 cups raisins
1 cup water

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Boil raisins in water 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Add cooked raisins, juice and all.

Sift together dry ingredients. Add to raisin mixture. Add chopped nuts, if desired. Mix well, and drop by teaspoonful.

Bake at 375º for 12 to 15 minutes.
