Cream Puff Dough

1/2 c. Spry (Crisco?)
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
4 eggs, unbeaten

Custard Filling:

2 T. butter or margarine
1/4 c. CREAM cornstarch
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. milk
2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour and salt together. Add to water all at once and beat vigorously until mixture is thick and smooth and comes away from the sides of the pan.
Remove from heat and add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition, until the mixture is smooth and blended.
Drop mixture from tablespoon about 2" apart on a greased baking sheet.
Bake in a very hot oven (450ºF) for ten minutes. Then reduce heat slightly to 400º and bake for 25 minutes longer.

Directions for Custard
Melt butter.
Blend in cornstarch, sugar and salt.
Heat to boiling over direct heat.
Remove from heat and stir in the slightly beaten egg yolks.
Return to heat and cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add vanilla.

Cool thoroughly.
Serve plan or with cream or as a filling for cream puffs, Boston cream pie, etc.
