2 Cups Light Brown Sugar, firmly packed
1 Cup Shortening
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
3 Squares Unsweetened Chocolate, melted
2 Large Eggs
2 1/2 Cups Sifted All-Purpose Flour
1 Cup Buttermilk
1 Cup Chopped Pecans or Walnuts

Directions:
Blend brown sugar with shortening. Stir in the next 4 ingredients. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add flour alternately with buttermilk. Stir in nuts. Chill dough 1 to 2 hours Drop by rounded Tablespoon full 2-inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375º until cookies have browned lightly on edges.
