1 c. of shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs well beaten
2 tbsp. of molasses
1 c. of raisins, simmer and drain
1 c. fruit salad (canned fruit cocktail), drained
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. orange or lemon rind
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 3 tbsp. hot water
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt

The only directions were to put soda in after eggs and put fruit in last.

This is one of two recipes I found hand written in the back of a 1935 edition of "The Household Searchlight Recipe Book." I think my mom had only two cookbooks in her life and this was one of them.
