1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses (Grandma Lee's)
2 tbsp vinegar
5 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
1 1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream shortening & sugar.
2. Beat in egg, molasses & vinegar.
3. Sift together dry ingredients, blend in
4. Chill 3 hours
5. Roll dough 1/8" thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes
6. Place 1" apart on greased cookie sheet.
7. Bake at 375 degrees for 5 to 6 minutes
7. Cool slightly; remove from rack

Recipe should NOT be halved.
