3 sticks margarine
1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
6 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. each: soda, salt, vanilla and cream of tartar

Oven: 350º ~ Yield: about 8 dozen
Cream margarine and sugars together. Stir in eggs, oil and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients. Chill dough. Shape in small balls and place on a baking sheet. Flatten with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. (Aunt Arlene often packed a box full of these cookies and mailed to Steve at college.) -PJV

Variation: Cream 1/2 c. shortening with 1 c. sugar. Beat in 1 egg. Add 3 c. flour, mixed with 1/4 tsp. salt and 1 T. baking powder. Add 1/2 c. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla. Bake at 375º for 8 minutes. (Susan McKellip-MAC College classmate)
