3 c. sugar
1 c. water
1/4c. white corn syrup
1/4 c. butter-not margarine
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp vanilla (or 6-8 drops oil of peppermint, if making peppermint patties)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients and bring to boil over high heat.
Stir constantly. Reduce heat and cover 3 min.
Uncover cook stirring to 238 degrees. Remove from heat. Beat with wooden spoon till white and smooth. Rinse platter with cool water and pour mixture onto it.
Do Not scrap pan. Cool
Knead in flavoring.
Knead if too hard.
