Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups milk
3 T. shortening-crisco, margarine
1/4 cup warm water
2 packages yeast
pinch of sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 T. sugar
1 beaten egg
7-8 cups flour
raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Scald milk-heat until bubbles form around the edges. Add shortening and let cool to lukewarm.
In a measuring cup, mix warm water, yeast and pinch of sugar. Let rise to the top of the cup.
Pour milk mixture in large bowl and add salt, sugar and egg and then the milk mixture. Then add the yeast mixture.

Add 4+ cups of flour (all purpose or bread flour). Beat hard by hand. Add raisins that have had hot water poured over them and drained. Cover with towel and set in warm place-about 1/2 hour. *Sticky!
Add more flour, 3-4 cups. Should be just a little sticky, but not really sticking to hands. Put in greased bowl. Cover with towel and let rise to double. Knead down and let rest while you grease pans (about 10 minutes). Make buns or loaves of bread. For cinnamon bread roll into rectangle and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Roll up and place in bread pan. Cover with towels, put in warm place until double. Bake 375-buns about 15 minutes. Bread-bake 15 minutes at 375 then turn down to 350 and bake about another 25 minutes. It is done when it sounds hollow. Brush with butter for a softer crust.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Everyone was excited when Grandma came to visit! A visit usually meant that your family would be blessed with some of Grandma's delicious raisin bread! Dad tells the story of how Tante Lanie, Mrs. DeDecker and Grandma would get together to compare their breads! Grandma always had the best raisin bread and the other ladies were envious!
