1 lb butter (salted) if not add 1/2 tsp salt
1 c very fine sugar
1 egg
4 c flour
3 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt ( omit salt if butter is salted)

Directions:
Preheat oven 350 use ungreased cookie sheet, cook 10 to 15 minutes----when edges are brown they are done, decorate with sprinkles.

soak butter in cold tap water 1 hour. remove from water, beat with electric beater--15 to 20 min--- until light and fluffy, add sugar gradually--then egg beat until very fluffy--sift flour and salt add to creamy mixture and blend by hand--add flavoring and blend well.
(( Very Important Blend Flour by Hand)) approximately makes 3 lbs.

(( can cool in refrigerator adds more flavor ---approximate 1 hour before making cookies)
