Ingredients:  
(Cover 1 c. raisins with water. Cook 5 minutes. Drain but reserve the juice.)
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. raisins
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. each cloves, nutmeg, or ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 c. flour
3 T. raisin juice
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. soda
Nuts (optional)
3 T. cocoa (optional if you want chocolate-raisin cookie)

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg. Then add juice and vanilla. Then add dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add raisins. Bake 400º, 10 minutes.

If you want spice-chocolate-raisin cookies, add 3 tablespoons cocoa to the dry ingredients.
