1 1/2 cups chopped dates( 8 ounce package)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 beaten egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat Oven to 350°
8 x 8 or 9 x 9 cake pan: Coat with Crisco

Combine chopped dates, baking soda, and water
Set Aside

Cream: sugar and butter
add beaten egg
stir in flour, baking powder

Combine with date mixture

Bake for 30-40 min., or toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
