Ingredients:
3 pounds granulated sugar/6 cups
1 pound dates, chopped/2 cups
1 pint milk, skim or 2%
pinch of salt

1 1/2 cups nuts, pecans or walnuts chopped
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cook first four ingredients in a double-boiler to a soft ball when dropped in cold water. Remove from heat and beat until it loses its gloss and starts to get firm around the edges. Add nuts and vanilla and mix. Turn out onto kitchen towel wet and rung out. Form rolls about 1.25". Slice in 1/4" thick pieces. You can store rolls in refrigerator for some time wrapped in the wet cloth before cutting into 1/4".

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
These are basically candy, not bread rolls. Present a nice dark color on a plate of Christmas candy.
