2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 c white sugar
1 egg
1 T water
1/4 c molasses
2 T white sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350ºF

Mix together flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter/margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in water and molasses. Gradually stir in the flour mixture into the molasses mixture.

Shape the dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining 2 T of sugar.

Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and flatten slightly.

Bake 8-10 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
