1 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup white sugar
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar (don't skimp)
1 tsp baking soda
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º.

Beat butter lightly, add both sugar and soda, mix well
Mix in egg and vanilla
Gradually add flour, stirring well
Add any "extras" - cranberries, nuts, toffee, butterscotch chips, peanut butter bits
Drop by rounded teaspoon (about 2" blobs) 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet
Bake 8 - 10 minutes till edges are light brown. (Don't overbake)
Let stand one minute, then put on wire rack to cool.
