1 1/2 cups butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
9 eggs
2/3 cup orange juice
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp lemon extract
6 slices candied pineapple cut up
3/4 cup candied citron cup up
3 cups white raisins
1/2 cup candied orange peel
1/2 cup candied lemon peel
3 cups candied cherries cut in half
3 1/2 cups coconut
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup chopped English walnuts
1/2 cup chopped Brazil nuts
2 cups chopped pecans
3 1/2 cups self rising flour
1/2 tsp each cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, ginger and mace

Directions:
Directions:
cream together butter, sugar, eggs, orange juice, vanilla and lemon extract
mix all other ingredients in another bowl
make sure all fruit pieces are floured and separated
add the butter and egg mixture
heat oven to 275º
bake 2 1/2 to 3 hours
in greased loaf pans
place a pan of water under cake while baking

Personal Notes:
Grandma always put fruit in an old wash tub type pan. She would mix it all in the wash tub so none would fall out. She also would use tube cake pans lined with greased heavy brown paper. Every Christmas she would send us a package with fruit cake in it no matter where we lived at the time.
