2 cups butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Optional:
1/2 cup cocoanut
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 tsp. nutmeg and 1 tsp. cinnamon
1 square chocolate, melted
1/2 c. candied cherries

Directions:

Cream butter. Gradually add sugars and cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Sift dry ingredients together. Gradually add to creamed mixture, beatting well after each addition. Divide dough into 6 parts. Add optional ingredients to each part: 1. 1/2 c. cocoanut, 2. 1/2 c. chopped pecans, 3. 1/2 tsp. nutmeg and 1 tsp. cinnamon, 4. 1 square melted chocolate, 5. 1/2 cup candied cherries, and leave part 6 plain. Chill 30 minutes and shape into rolls 1 3/4" in diameter. Freeze. Slice frozen dough 1/8" thick. Bake at 375º for 10-12 minutes.

Makes a lot of cookies with variety! We used to make these when I was a kid, mostly cinnamon, chocolate and plain.
