1/4 cup Butter or Margarine, softened
1 cup Sugar, divided
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 Eggs, separated
1/4 cup Flour
1/2 tsp. grated Lemon Peel
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/8 tsp. Allspice
1/4 tsp. Salt
2 cups Buttermilk
1/4 tsp. Cream of Tarter
Dash of Salt

In a large mixing bowl cream butter and 2/3 cups sugar. add vanilla and egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in flour, lemon peel, spices and salt, blending well. Pour in milk. Bake at 425º for 8 minutes and reduce heat to 325º and bake for 40 minutes. Cool about 30 minutes.

In a bowl, beat reserved sugar and egg whites with cream of tarter and dash of salt. Beat until soft peaks form. Pour on pie and brown.
