2-1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 c. molasses
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour once, measure, resift with soda, salt & spices, Cream the shortening; add sugar & cream until light and fluffy. Add egg & beat well, stir in molasses. Add flour mixture alternately with water, mixing smooth after each addition. Drop by spoonful on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° 10-12 minutes.
