Cake:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz red food coloring (2 bottles)
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vinegar
Coconut Frosting:
1 cup milk
1/4 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 lb. (1/2 cup) butter

Directions:
Directions:
For Cake: Mix sugar, salt and coca - blend in shortening, add eggs and beat. Add flour and milk, mix well. Dissolve soda and baking powder in vinegar. Add to cake mixture and mix well. Add food coloring, mix well.
Bake in 2 layer pans or 9 x 13 pan approximately 30-35 minutes @ 350 degrees.
For Frosting: Cook flour and milk until thick. Completely cool. Add butter and beat. Gradually add sugar, beating well. When cake is completely cool cover each layer with icing and top with coconut.
