Ingredients: 1/2 C of shortening (Yes Old School Crisco) 1tsp of vanilla 1 tsp of baking soda 1 C sugar 2/3 C of butter milk (if you don’t have any buttermilk you can add 1Tbs of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk let stand for 5 min.) 2C of flour 1/4 tsp or a pinch of salt

Directions:Mix all dry ingredients except the (sugar) together set aside, Now beat the crisco and sugar until creamy the add vanilla slowly add the dry mixture Ok...Now grind up or cut up 1C of raisins and 1/2 C of nut meats I think this means what ever kind you like. Grate the rind of 1 large orange or 2 small ones.put all juice from orange along with the rind into the batter.
Frosting
Get the juice from another orange (1) and add to 1C of sugar mix well. Pour it on the hot cake then put back in the oven for 1 min. Yum
Bake at 350.o in a dripping pan? that ‘s what the original recipe calls for. I put it in a 13x9 greased and floured pan 30 to 40 min or until tooth pick comes out clean. |

Notes: When me and my brothers were little we would have this cake on Christmas Day at granny’s house we loved it...P.S. This is where the oranges in the stockings came from.
