-1 1/2 cups dark syrup
-1 cup white sugar
-1/8 lb lard
-1/8 lb butter
-1 egg
-1/8 cup sour milk (mix 1/2 tsp soda with milk)
-1/4 tsp each cinnamon, salt, cloves & allspice
-4 cups flour
-chopped nuts (to your taste)

Stir as much flour in as possible - then roll them on a floured board like string cheese as big around as your little finger and cut off pieces about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long (size them as you prefer).

Bake at 350º for 7-10 minutes

Mix the dough ahead so you can refrigerate it - the dough works better when it is cold. (lasts a couple days in refrigerator)
