Ingredients:  
Add 1 1/2 tsps vinegar to 1/2 cup canned (evaporated) milk. Let stand a minute.

Blend together:
1/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 unbeaten egg
1/2 tsp vanilla

Add soured milk

Sift together and add to the above:
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt

Add 2 cups coconut and mix well

Bake on greased cookie sheet for 12-14 minutes.
