bacon
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup ketchup
liquid smoke

Directions:
Directions:
Wrap whole water chestnuts with 1/2 strip bacon and secure with flat toothpicks. Bake 1 hour at 275º. Mix ketchup with sugar and liquid smoke. Pour over water chestnuts and bake another hour at 275º. Variation--soak water chestnuts in soy sauce 20 minutes and then roll in sugar before wrapping with bacon If you're in a hurry, bake at 400º about 20 minutes and then add the sauce,.
