1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup sifted confectioner's sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, butter, and powdered sugar until light. Add egg and flavorings. Mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients, beating until well blended after each addition. Divide dough into 2 parts. Add red food coloring to one half. Wrap each portion of dough in waxed paper and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours.
Using about 1 tsp. of each dough, roll 4 inch strips on a floured board or cloth, place white and pink strips side by side and press together, twist into a candy cane. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 12 - 15 minutes at 350º or until lightly browned. Handle carefully.
