1 C Shortening
2 C Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 C Sour Milk*
3 1/2 C Flour
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Vanilla

* If you don't have sour milk, add a splash of vinegar to the milk.

Filling:
2 Cups chopped dates
3/4 Cups sugar
3/4 Cups water
Cook until thick, let cool

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add sifted dry ing. alternately with milk. Drop a tablespoon of batter onto cookie sheet. Place a tsp. of filling, top with 1/2 tablespoon of batter.

Bake 350º for 12-15 minutes, let cook, remove from sheet.

This is another Gloria Mac cookie recipe. Very good and if you don't like dates, you can use a thick jam.
