1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup finely chopped nuts (hickory or walnut)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening and sugars. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well.Stir in dry ingredients. Form into rolls and wrap with saran or waxed paper and refrigerate or freeze for several hours. Cut into 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick slices. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes or slightly longer until lightly browned.
