1C. butter
1lb. (2 1/3 C. light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1C. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (14oz) can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk
1C. chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Wooden spoon for mixing

USE A WOODEN SPOON FOR MIXING. Butter a 9 inch square pan. Melt butter in a sauce pan. Add brown sugar and salt. Stir in corn syrup and gradually add milk. Stir constantly over medium heat until candy reaches firm ball stage (240º), Remove from heat. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into pan. Cool. Then cut into squares (1 inch or desired size). Cut waxed paper squares for wrapping.
