Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
2/3 cup water
1 TBSP cornstarch
2 TBSP butter
3/4 TBSP salt
2 tsp vanilla (or flavoring of your choice)

Directions:
Directions:
- In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients except vanilla. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until the mixture reaches 256 degrees (or when a small amount dropped into cold water forms a firm ball - that's what I do!).
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla (and coloring if desired), pour into a buttered 8X8" square pan.
- When the mixture is cool enough to handle, rub a small amount of soft butter between your palms and take a handful of taffy and pull until it becomes stiff and opaque. Pull or rub into ropes and cut into pieces with scissors.
- To store the taffy, let it sit for an hour or so and then wrap individual pieces in waxed paper.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is such a fun party and one that everyone can get involved in! If doing it with young children for a birthday party, I recommend setting buckets of warm water and towels around outside so that the children can immediately immerse their hands into the water without touching any door handles or windows! Actually, that's a good idea when doing it with adults also!
