1 14 oz. package (50) light caramels, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, 1 package Pillsbury German Chocolate Cake Mix, 3/4 cup butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, 6 oz. (1cup) chocolate chips, 1 c. nuts if desired.

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour 13 x 9 pan. Combine in heavy saucepan--caramels and evaporated milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly. (OR-It's easier to microwave this on low power and stir every minute until melted). Keep warm. Combine cake mix, melted butter, and milk. Stir with a spoon until dough holds together. Press 1/2 of the dough into the pan. Reserve remaining dough for topping over all. Bake at 350º for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked warm crust. (Add nuts-optional). Spread caramel mixture all over. Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture. Bake another 20 minutes. Cool completely.
