1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 2 egg yolks, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 tsp. salt, 3 c. flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/3 c. milk.

Butter Frosting: 3 T. soft butter, 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar, 3 T. cream, 1 T. vanilla. (Use a recipe for stiff decorator icing for decorating details).

Cream butter; add sugar gradually; mix in beaten egg yolks and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients and milk. Chill. Roll 1/8 inch thin on well floured surface; cut with cookie cutters and place on greased cookie sheets. Decorate with colored sugar before baking or frost and decorate when cool. Bake at 350º for 8-10 minutes.

Butter Frosting: Blend butter, sugar, cream and vanilla, beat until smooth. Color with food coloring for decorated holiday cookies. OR use stiff decorator icing for detailed decorating.

This recipe was used for Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine, Halloween and letter and number cookies for celebrations and school treats. Eleana and Alex participated actively in preparing the treats, often using very unique color combinations.
